Which Implant Placement Provides The Most Natural Appearance?

girl-fall-colorsWomen choose to undergo breast augmentation for a variety of different reasons. However, whether our patients desire to enhance the shape of the breasts, improve symmetry between the breasts, or increase their overall breast volume, most women desire results that will both look – and feel – natural.

Carefully selecting the placement of your breast implants can be essential for achieving your expectations. While both silicone and saline implants are always placed below the breast tissue, the implant can either be placed above or below the pectoralis muscle. A subglandular approach places the implant directly above the pectoralis muscle, and though this placement can cause the implant to look and feel a bit less natural, the recovery period with this approach can be easier. A submuscular approach places the implant below the pectoralis muscle, and can achieve more natural-looking results since there is more of your own body’s natural tissues covering the implant. There is also a third placement option – a “dual plane” approach – that combines both the subglandular and submuscular approaches to mitigate risks while achieving results that can still feel more natural than traditional implant placement.

During the consultation process, I will listen to your unique goals, perform a physical exam, review your medical history, and then recommend the implant placement that can deliver the most natural results.
